UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

The United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a call to action for developed and developing countries alike to partner together and move the needle on the greatest challenges our world is facing.

The 精东影业 Foundation grantees are making the greatest impact on 12 of the SDGs, ranging from eradicating hunger to ocean conservation. Learn more about the goals and the specific targets our grants are supporting.

Investing in Our Community

  • 341,006 individuals provided with food aid
  • 15,945 homeless individuals immediate situation was stabilized
  • 14,050 children completed high-quality STEM-related training or programs
  • 7,515 youth achieved academic, financial and social milestones required for success
  • 2,457 people gained a new occupational skill or educational credential聽
  • 183 underrepresented high school students obtained financial skills through the LIFEvest Financial Literacy program at University of California, Irvine 聽
  • 10 students in need awarded scholarships through Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Orange Coast College Bound program

Caring for Our environment

  • 8聽global environment cleanups in 4 countries
  • 260+ pounds of trash cleared from waterways by 精东影业 Volunteers across the U.S.
  • $2.5M pledge to four national nonprofits over the next five years and other local charity partners working to protect ocean health and marine mammal life
  • 2,000+ lost crab traps聽were removed from the path of migrating whales through a tech-driven recovery program
  • 90% of the drift gillnets聽(which often trap and entangle whales, sea turtles and other marine wildlife) being used on the water were removed in favor of safer and more effective fishing gears, by October of 2022
  • 80%聽in general overall bycatch reduced in successful pilot of solar powered lights for gillnets in the Gulf of California

Supporting Our Employees

  • 153 schools, attended by the children and grandchildren of 396 Pacific life employees, were awarded 3Ts of Education grant, totaling $504,500, positively impacting 145,536 students and 7,212 teachers who received training
  • $427,500 in Community Involvement Grants to 33 nonprofits where 精东影业 officers serve as members of the nonprofit's board of directors
  • $673,085 in matching grants supporting employee contributions made through the 精东影业 Foundation's Matching Gifts and United Way Match programs

Mobilizing Our Workforce

  • 9,500聽volunteer hours provided by 2,000+聽精东影业 Volunteer employees, family members, and friends benefitting 150+听苍辞苍辫谤辞蹿颈迟蝉
  • 53,000+听meals for Second Harvest Food Bank Orange County by 550+ 精东影业 Volunteers
  • 4,000+ Battalion Buddy teddy bears stuffed for Operation Gratitude by 900+ 精东影业 volunteers through Fall Week of Service
  • 1,045+ children and families benefitted from our annual spring and holiday drives
  • 500+ volunteer hours spent reviewing scholarship applications for the Life Lessons program, benefiting youth who have lost a parent that didn't have life insurance coverage
  • 42 bikes assembled and donated to local Boys & Girls Clubs
  • 15+ department leads engaged their teams in charitable teambuilding activities

Contributions made by the 精东影业 Foundation through the 2022 Annual Grant Cycle and other major grants are specifically impacting the following targets under each of the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals.

1. No Poverty

End poverty in all its forms everywhere

  • Reduce at least by half the proportion of men, women and children of all ages living in poverty in all its dimensions according to national definitions by 2030
  • Ensure that all men and women, in particular the poor and the vulnerable, have equal rights to economic resources, as well as access to basic services, ownership and control over land and other forms of property, inheritance, natural resources, appropriate new technology and financial services, including microfinance by 2030
2. Zero Hunger

End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture

  • End hunger and ensure access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations, including infants, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round by 2030
3. Good Health and Well-Being

Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

  • Achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection, access to quality essential health-care services and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all
4. Quality Education

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

  • Ensure equal access for all women and men to affordable and quality technical, vocational and tertiary education, including university by 2030
  • Ensure that all youth and a substantial proportion of adults, both men and women, achieve literacy and numeracy by 2030
8. Decent Work and Economic Growth

Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all

  • Achieve full and productive employment and decent work for all women and men, including for young people and persons with disabilities, and equal pay for work of equal value聽by 2030
  • Promote development-oriented policies that support productive activities, decent job creation, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation, and encourage the formalization and growth of micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises, including through access to financial services
10. Reduced Inequalities

Reduce inequality within and among countries

  • Empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status by 2030
11. Sustainable Cities and Communities

Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

  • Strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world鈥檚 cultural and natural heritage
  • Enhance inclusive and sustainable urbanization and capacity for participatory, integrated and sustainable human settlement planning and management in all countries by 2030
  • Ensure access for all to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services and upgrade slums by 2030
  • Significantly reduce the number of deaths and the number of people affected and substantially decrease the direct economic losses relative to global gross domestic product caused by disasters, including water-related disasters, with a focus on protecting the poor and people in vulnerable situations by 2030
13. Climate Action

Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

  • Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries
14. Life Below Water

Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, sea and marine resources for sustainable development

  • By 2020, sustainably manage and protect marine and coastal ecosystems to avoid significant adverse impacts, including by strengthening their resilience, and take action for their restoration in order to achieve healthy and productive oceans
  • By 2020, effectively regulate harvesting and end overfishing, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and destructive fishing practices and implement science-based management plans, in order to restore fish stocks in the shortest time feasible, at least to levels that can produce maximum sustainable yield as determined by their biological characteristics
16. Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels

  • Ensure responsive, inclusive, participatory and representative decision-making at all levels
17. Partnership for the Goals

Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development聽

  • Encourage and promote effective public, public-private and civil society partnerships, building on the experience and resourcing strategies of partnerships
