UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

The United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a call to action for developed and developing countries alike to partner together and move the needle on the greatest challenges our world is facing.

精东影业 and the 精东影业 Foundation grantees are making the greatest impact on 12 of the SDGs, ranging from eradicating hunger to ocean conservation. Learn more about the goals and the specific targets our grants are supporting.

2023 IMPACT HIGHLIGHTS

We are proud to partner with nonprofit organizations and our employees across the world to have a positive impact in the communities we call home.

Investing in Our Community

  • 377,030 individuals were provided with Food Aid through eight different grantees, with 57,496 of those individuals relying on these services on a regular basis to have their food needs met
  • 13,772 youth were served through afterschool educational services offered by nine different nonprofits
  • 2,133 households that were affected by crisis had their emergency needs met
  • 1,729 individuals in Omaha, NE, demonstrated new occupational skills or earned a new educational credential
  • 264 underrepresented high school students gained financial skills through UCI's 精东影业 LIFEvest Financial Literacy program
  • 12 students in need awarded scholarships through Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Orange Coast College Bound program

Caring for Our environment

  • 11 environment cleanups and activities in 6 countries
  • 435+ pounds of trash cleared from waterways by 精东影业 Volunteers across the world
  • 700+ lost crab traps were recovered from major crab ports from the Monterey to the Oregon boarder in the past two years
  • 600 square miles of marine habitat off the California and Oregon coasts are being protected from all fishing, with an additional 182 square miles being protected from all forms of fishing gear that is known to harm seafloor habitats
  • A.I. pilot launched to enable satellite detection for whale conservation
  • WWF completed the development of voluntary wildlife safety recommendations for vessels that will reduce risks to wildlife in the Bering Strait region and begun trials with several shipping companies聽聽

Supporting Our Employees

  • 141 schools, attended by the children and grandchildren of 417 精东影业 employees, were awarded 3Ts of Education grants, totaling $457,000, positively impacting 121,747 students and 1,339 teachers who received training
  • $467,500 in Community Involvement Grants to 34 nonprofits where 精东影业 officers serve as members of the nonprofit's board of directors
  • $922,215 in matching grants supporting employees contributions made through the 精东影业 Foundation's Matching Gifts and United Way Match programs聽

  • 13,300+ hours contributed by 2,300 精东影业 Volunteers, benefiting 170 nonprofits
  • 160K+ kits & meals assembled as part of our on-site Weeks of Service events
  • 1,163 clothing items donated by 40+ 精东影业 employees to Orange County United Way's Suit Up for Student Success Professional Clothing Drive
  • 825 children & families benefitted from our annual holiday drive
  • 45+ department events included a community-focused project
  • 1 KaBOOM Playground built for the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Ana

The 精东影业 Foundation & United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Contributions made by the 精东影业 Foundation through the 2023 Annual Grant Cycle and other major grants are specifically impacting the following targets under each of the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals.

1. No Poverty

End poverty in all its forms everywhere

  • Reduce at least by half the proportion of men, women and children of all ages living in poverty in all its dimensions according to national definitions by 2030
  • Ensure that all men and women, in particular the poor and the vulnerable, have equal rights to economic resources, as well as access to basic services, ownership and control over land and other forms of property, inheritance, natural resources, appropriate new technology and financial services, including microfinance by 2030
2. Zero Hunger

End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture

  • End hunger and ensure access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations, including infants, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round by 2030
3. Good Health and Well-Being

Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

  • Achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection, access to quality essential health-care services and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all
4. Quality Education

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

  • Ensure equal access for all women and men to affordable and quality technical, vocational and tertiary education, including university by 2030
  • Ensure that all youth and a substantial proportion of adults, both men and women, achieve literacy and numeracy by 2030
8. Decent Work and Economic Growth

Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all

  • Achieve full and productive employment and decent work for all women and men, including for young people and persons with disabilities, and equal pay for work of equal value聽by 2030
  • Promote development-oriented policies that support productive activities, decent job creation, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation, and encourage the formalization and growth of micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises, including through access to financial services
10. Reduced Inequalities

Reduce inequality within and among countries

  • Empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status by 2030
11. Sustainable Cities and Communities

Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

  • Strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world鈥檚 cultural and natural heritage
  • Enhance inclusive and sustainable urbanization and capacity for participatory, integrated and sustainable human settlement planning and management in all countries by 2030
  • Ensure access for all to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services and upgrade slums by 2030
  • Significantly reduce the number of deaths and the number of people affected and substantially decrease the direct economic losses relative to global gross domestic product caused by disasters, including water-related disasters, with a focus on protecting the poor and people in vulnerable situations by 2030
13. Climate Action

Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

  • Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries
14. Life Below Water

Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, sea and marine resources for sustainable development

  • By 2020, sustainably manage and protect marine and coastal ecosystems to avoid significant adverse impacts, including by strengthening their resilience, and take action for their restoration in order to achieve healthy and productive oceans
  • By 2020, effectively regulate harvesting and end overfishing, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and destructive fishing practices and implement science-based management plans, in order to restore fish stocks in the shortest time feasible, at least to levels that can produce maximum sustainable yield as determined by their biological characteristics
16. Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels

  • Ensure responsive, inclusive, participatory and representative decision-making at all levels
17. Partnership for the Goals

Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development聽

  • Encourage and promote effective public, public-private and civil society partnerships, building on the experience and resourcing strategies of partnerships
