Five $15,000 Scholarships Given During Life Insurance Awareness Month to Students Who Lost a Parent Without Life Insurance

The ��Ӱҵ Foundation has awarded five $15,000 college scholarships through and its annual Life Lessons Scholarship Program to aid the financial burden of students who have lost a parent without life insurance. The scholarships are part of September’s , designed to help educate individuals on the importance and benefits of life insurance. Scholarships were awarded to students in states where ��Ӱҵ employees live and work. Recipients include Nicholas Layman, Leandro Mantilla, and Rylee Martinez from California; Nakayla Hock from Nebraska; and William Notarianni from Virginia.

“The death of a parent is unthinkable for children and young adults, thrusting them into a new world of responsibilities, emotional turmoil, and financial hardship,” said Tennyson Oyler, president of the ��Ӱҵ Foundation. “We are deeply connected to the Life Lessons Scholarship Program as it showcases the importance and impact of having life insurance protection and are proud to provide scholarships to these students which will help shoulder some of their financial burden.”

Since 2018, the Foundation has provided $360,000 in college scholarships through Life Happens. This year, more than 240 ��Ӱҵ employees participated in the review of hundreds of scholarship applications.

Meet ��Ӱҵ’s 2022 Life Lessons Scholarship Winners

NICHOLAS LAYMAN

College: Moorpark College
Major: Business
Fun Fact: I have been playing competitive basketball since I was 9 years old all the way up to high school.
Five Year Aspiration: I hope to see myself either with a successful business or be a real estate agent.

LEANDRO MANTILLA

College: University of California, Berkeley
Major: Global Studies and Spanish and Portuguese
Fun Fact: I’m a polyglot; I speak English, Spanish, Portuguese, and I’m currently learning American Sign Language (ASL).
Five Year Aspiration: I hope to be working at the State Department as a Foreign Service Officer.��

“I’m profoundly grateful and humbled for having been selected as a scholarship recipient. With the help of your generous donation, I will be able to focus solely on school and enroll in the challenging and prestigious Honors Global Studies Program at UC Berkeley. Moreover, this scholarship will help me get one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a foreign service officer of the U.S. Department of State.”

RYLEE MARTINEZ

College: Penn State Harrisburg
Major: Criminal Justice
Fun Fact: I have been playing softball since I was 5 years old and now, I am on the Penn State Harrisburg softball team.
Five Year Aspiration: I hope to be graduated from college and working as a sheriff’s deputy.

WILLIAM NOTARIANNI

College: George Mason University
Major: Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on Aerospace
Five Year Aspiration: I hope to have graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and be employed in that field working toward my master’s degree.
