¾«¶«Ó°Òµ LIFEvest Program

As a part of the ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Foundation’s commitment to investing in Financial Security initiatives, this summer, employees had the opportunity to volunteer with high school students from all over Orange County who are determined to be the first in their family to attend college. Hosted by the University of California, Irvine, the is a week-long program that allows low-income 9th and 10th graders the opportunity to experience college campus life, while learning important life skills.

Financial Literacy and Beyond

During the program, students explore potential careers, learn about managing their money and preparing for college, and practice skills ranging from networking to presenting. They also have an opportunity to visit the corporate headquarters of companies based in Orange County, including ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ, where they enjoy a four-course dinner and learn about important social etiquette skills. Students leave the program with clear career and college goals, as well as experience creating a budget, investing, and planning for retirement.

“ Thank you to the entire ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ team for planning and hosting our LIFEvest group. It was such a memorable experience that came with many life lessons and skills I’ll take into my future. I'm truly grateful for the opportunities that ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ has provided to students like us and will always pay it forward, remembering the lessons and performing to the best of my abilities. „

Katie L., 2023 LIFEvest Fellow

We are grateful to the 60 ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ employees who volunteered at LIFEvest this summer. They played an important role in the program – serving as mentors and offering guidance while students created budgets, practiced their networking and social skills, as well as listened and provided feedback on their Life Plan presentations. The first summer cohort of students had the privilege of hearing from Jay Orlandi, Chief General Counsel, who shared his experience of going through high school and college, as well as his own career journey. The last cohort attended a panel discussion led by Faculty Director Chris Schwarz, where Adrian Griggs, Chief Operating Officer, Vibhu Sharma, Chief Financial Officer, and Tere Segarra, Vice President, ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ Foundation, shared their high school and college experience, as well as how they each found themselves in the careers they have today.

“ Our team of actuaries was thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in a program that is educating diverse communities on the importance of financial security. It was inspiring to meet with the students and hear about their college and career ambitions, and at the end of the week, it was rewarding to see their progress toward one day achieving these goals. „
